James Bloodworth

James was named in 2014 by The Times as one of the top 100 most influential figures on the left of British politics.  His role as editor of LeftFootForward (founded by Will, son of Jack, Straw) has afforded him access to a very wide audience.  His site is among the top three political blog sites in the UK (the others are Labour List and Guido Fawkes) and enjoys international recognition.  James himself also writes regularly for publications that include The Independent, The New Statesman, The Spectator, The Guardian and The Wall Street Journal.  He numbers amongst his friends and colleagues most of the current leading figures in progressive political thought and comment.

‘The Illusion of Meritocracy’, James’s first book will explode the myth that has become part of the political consensus of recent years – that Meritocracy is the fairest concept by which our society can be ordered.  James argues, in expertly researched detail but also in a vibrantly polemical voice, that the whole concept is one of the biggest betrayals of true social mobility and egalitarianism.
